Portugal were defeated 4-0 by Germany at their World Cup Opener despite Cristiano Ronaldo's effort  to change the course of the game.

7' A mistake by Philipp Lahm allows Miguel Veloso to steal the ball and feed Ronaldo on the edge of the box, Ronaldo hits a low drilled shot that is easily collected by Manuel Neuer, Ronaldo then apologises to his teammates because he chose to shoot the ball when he could have passed the ball.
10' Germany 1-0 Portugal Thomas Muller scores from the penalty spot after Joao Pereria bundled Nario Gotze over in the box.
22' Jerome Boateng aggressively bundles Ronaldo but he's quickly on his feet without complaint.
31' Germany 2-0 Portugal Mats Hummels beautifully headed the ball to the back of the post for Germany.
36' Red Card - Portugal's Pepe is given a red card for first bringing down Muller and then reacting to the German;s theatrics with a pressing forward.

45' Germany 3-0 Portugal A poor clearance falls to Muller, who smashes it home.
65' Ronaldo picks up the ball and races forward, but with his options limited by Pepe's sending off, he elects for an optiimistic long drive that is blocked by Hummels.
74' Ronaldo goes ballistic after Portugal are denied what appears to be a bonafide penalty after Eder is brought down in the box chasing a blocked effort from Nani.
77' Germany 4-0 Portugal Muller completes his hat-trick with a simple tap-in from close range
Well as we all know, football can be sometimes unpredictable, despite today's defeat Portugal might still qualify from the group although it currently loos daunting, they (Portugal) have their work cut out for them. Also, with Neymar and Messi performing spectacularly in their World Cup opener, Cristiano Ronaldo was expected by many to perform beautifully.
