The first half was pleasurable to watch, a lot of actions were made, and we saw everything except goals.
The winner of this game will see himself automatically qualified to
the next round. The teams unfortunately failed to score, and therefore
will have to wait untill the next game to decide the fate of the group.
Brazil and Mexico have already locked horns no fewer than 38 times.
The South Americans have fared better in past encounters with 22 wins to Mexico’s ten, plus six draws.
The pair last crossed paths in the FIFA Confederations Cup on 19
June, 2013, when Brazil prevailed 2-0 in Fortaleza following goals from
Neymar and Jo. The two sides have already met three times in the World
Cup and the Brazilians won on each occasion without conceding a goal,
triumphing 4-0 in 1950, 5-0 in 1954 and 2-0 in 1962. The previous
showdown in Brazil in 1950 was also the sides’ debut meeting.
Mexico have only beaten South American opponents once in the World
Cup, during the 2002 edition when they saw off Ecuador 2-1 in the group
round. In other encounters against CONMEBOL teams, El Tri have picked up
two draws and no fewer than eight defeats.
