Chiefs secure play-off spot

Defending Super Rugby Champions Waikato Chiefs secures a playoff berth with a sixth straight win with an 11-8 victory over Auckland Blues in their final wee of the regular season.  Liam Messam ran in a try while six points came from the boot of Aaron Cruden as the Chiefs kept alive their hopes of recording a hat-trick of Super Rugby titles. The blues had dominated the match with 91 per cent territory and 70 per cent possession.

Despite the blues domination, they had nothing to show for it with Aaron Cruden's penalty for the Chiefs the only points of the first half. The chiefs had conceded six penalties before the winning their first, missed by Cruden, but soon got another chance and opening the scoring in the 23rd minute. The result destroyed the Blues who have an unbeaten home record this year .
