Lewis Hamilton won an incident-packed 50th running of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone to reduce the gap at the top of the drivers standings. Rosberg had a good gap at the beginning but had to retire due to mechanical failures. The retirement allowed Hamilton to coast to the chequered victory ahead of Valtteri Bottas and Daniel Ricciardo with Jenson Button. Rosberg was the first to pit on lap for 19 medium tyres, Hamilton staying out longer before opting for the more durable hard compound.
