Maccabi Halifa's pre-season game against Lillein Austria was stopped when pro-Palestinian supporters stormed the pitch. Supporters of reportedly Turkey origin entered the pitch and header for the Maccabi players while Lille was winning 2-0.
One of the players is seen to trip a fan before punches were thrown. The Maccabi players, some of whom retaliated managed to leave the pitch unhurt. The referee had to stop the game in the 86th minute. see more pics after the cut
Banners calling for the liberation of the Palestine were also displayed by certain sections of the crowd. Last month UEFA announced that Israeli clubs could not host European matches due to the unrest in Israel. Israel is currently engaged in hostilities with Hamas, a military group that runs the Gaza ship
