Basketball - Gabon shocks Cape Verde in AfroBasket 2015

Gabon stun Cape Verde in Biggest upset of AfroBasket 2015 so far. Against all odds Gabon on Wednesday stunned Cape Verde 77-67 in AfroBasket 2015 Round of 16 to advance to the Quarter-Finals. Therence Gyll Mayimba came off the bench to lead the Gabonese with a team-best 17 points, while Cape Verde’s Mario Correia finished with a game-high 23 points.

It was a balanced contest as the 14 lead changes showed. Although Gabon trailed 41-39 at half-time they never gave up, and Mayimba was partly responsible for their comeback in the game. Lerry Essono’s layup tied the game at 67-67 with 2:37 left before Mayimba hit a three-pointer with 1:37 to go, and as much as the islanders woke up to the game, it was really late as Gabon never trailed again.
