Five games into the AfroBasket 2015, and Senegal clinched a place in the Semi-Finals after a comprehensive 75-58 win over Algeria on Thursday in Rades, Tunisia. Once again, Gorgui Dieng stood out with a game-highs 20 points and 17 rebounds as Senegal increased their chances of winning their second continental title since 1997.
The Senegalese reached the Semi-Finals for the second in a row and will face Nigeria, a team they defeated in the Quarter-Finals of AfroBasket 2013. In a match-up between two of the three teams that received a wild card invitation to participate in the tournament, Algeria never led as the Western Africans who dominated the contest throughout.
Mounir Benzagala, Mohamed Harat and Medhi Cheriet combined for 35 Algerian points as the North African saw their dream of reaching the last four of the tournament for the second time since they hosted the event in 2005, end abruptly. Algeria trailed only by five in the first quarter, but the Senegalese took off in the third quarter with a 25-9 run.
