The first round of the Group Phase is over and Argentina and Mexico lead both groups into a second round that promises to be an exciting four days of competition in the Palacio de los Deportes. With a strong performance from its internal players, Panama defeated Brazil, 89-72, leaving Ruben Magnano’s team out of the second phase of the championship for the second consecutive edition. With the win, Panama advanced by their own merit for the second round of the Group Phase of the FIBA Americas Championship.
Canada took it to another level during the third quarter. Puerto Rico looked overwhelmed and without a collective identity on the court. Canada won the third by the score of 35-16 on their way to a 112 – 92 victory over the Boricuas.
The last game of the first round of the Group Phase featured the National Teams of Uruguay and hosts Mexico. With a complete game from Gustavo Ayon (23 points and 14 rebounds) and great scoring from Hector Hernandez (17) Mexico defeated Uruguay, 78 -53 and ended the first round of the Championship in the top position of Group A.
