Argentina and Mexico advance undefeated to the second round of FIBA American Championships

The first round of the Group Phase is over and Argentina and Mexico lead both groups into a second round that promises to be an exciting four days of competition in the Palacio de los Deportes. Eight teams now remain, looking to move on to the semifinals and hopefully claim one of the two spots to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. Read the details of the games after the cut

Argentina closed the first phase of the FIBA Americas Championship unbeaten, after defeating Venezuela, 77-68, in a changing game with two teams that displayed very good basketball and that was defined by who was smarter in the second half. The winning team was highlighted by the figures of Scola, Nocioni and Campazzo.

With a strong performance from its internal players, Panama defeated Brazil, 89-72, leaving Ruben Magnano’s team out of the second phase of the championship for the second consecutive edition. With the win, Panama advanced by their own merit for the second round of the Group Phase of the FIBA Americas Championship.

Canada took it to another level during the third quarter. Puerto Rico looked overwhelmed and without a collective identity on the court. Canada won the third by the score of 35-16 on their way to a 112 – 92 victory over the Boricuas.

The last game of the first round of the Group Phase featured the National Teams of Uruguay and hosts Mexico. With a complete game from Gustavo Ayon (23 points and 14 rebounds) and great scoring from Hector Hernandez (17) Mexico defeated Uruguay, 78 -53 and ended the first round of the Championship in the top position of Group A.
