FIFA confirms date for Presidential election

FIFA's presidential election will go ahead on February 26 as planned, soccer's governing body said on Twitter following an executive committee meeting on Tuesday.

The election will take place during an extraordinary FIFA Congress in Zurich, which will also vote on key reforms to soccer's scandal-plagued governing body.
There is uncertainty surrounding Michel Platini's bid with he, current FIFA president Sepp Blatter and FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke serving 90-day suspensions amid allegations of corruption.

Blatter had already announced plans to resign before being banned for three months amid a FIFA ethics investigation over an alleged £1.35m payment that he made to Platini in 2011.
