Warri Wolves players refused to train yesterday and were seen carrying placards asking the state government to pay them their salaries and bonuses (read here). The club’s media officer, Moses Etu, told Leadership Sports yesterday, that the players will get their money as soon as possible. Read what Etu said after the cut
"The players made an attempt to go on strike, which is normal, but we let them know that the state government has approved the money for their salaries to be paid. As I am talking to you, the money has been transferred to the account of the club, but, according to them (government officials) one of the signatories to the account is out of town.
But we are beyond that point; what is in the account is already there. The only snag is that tomorrow is a public holiday and nothing can be done about that. However, by Friday, all things being equal, something will happen and the players will smile. I and others have assured them of this and so it will remain."
The club’s spokesperson also assured that the game against Sunshine Stars of Akure slated for this weekend will go on and the Akure Gunners will fall.
