Australian Nick Kyrgios is on the brink of being suspended by the ATP for four weeks after the 20-year-old Australian was fined $1,500 for his antics during a match against Andreas Haider-Maurer at the Shanghai Open on Monday. The Australian was reportedly heard calling the tournament a "circus" and complaining about the ball boys.
"They were talking in the middle of the points. I was just expecting a lot more obviously from a Masters event. You're not going to see Roger [Federer] or Rafa [Rafael Nadal] playing on a court like that. They're always playing on center court, where things usually go pretty smoothly," Kyrgios said of cameramen during his match.
He was put on probation by the ATP earlier this year, with the threat of a 28-day suspension and $25,000 fine if he reaches $5,000 in fines before February; after he did some trash-talking to Stanislas Wawrinka last month in Montreal where a courtside microphone picked up Kyrgios saying that his pal, Australian pro Thanasi Kokkinakis, had been with Wawrinka's girlfriend.
Kyrgios was fined a total of $12,500 the next day by the ATP, which later said it would monitor his behavior.
