Rafael Nadal finally avenged recent suffering against Fabio Fognini, in the same central court where he claimed his Olympic gold in 2008. Nadal beat Italian Fognini by 7-5, 6-3, and saw him overcome the Italian for the second time this year after Fognini had beaten the Spaniard in key matches such as in Barcelona and in the US Open.
Nadal’s win sees him through to Sunday’s final where he will take on the winner of the second men’s semi-final between Serbian, Djokovic and Spaniard, Ferrer, which will be player later on today.
Nadal maintained mental composure at all times as Fognini frustration with events was clear to see.
The Italian hurled his racket to the floor in the 55th minute of the match and even had a cross exchange of words coming into the second set with Toni Nadal (Rafa Nadal’s coach and uncle). "What’s up...? Come on, come on", said Toni to Fabio.
