Pirelli has opted to run the medium and soft compound tyres when Formula 1 returns to Mexico later this month. The Italian tyre manufacturer has announced its nominations for the final four grands prix of the season in the United States, Mexico, Brazil and Abu Dhabi.
The medium and soft rubber will also be used at Austin's Circuit of the Americas and Interlagos, as was the case last year. Pirelli said "simulation data has indicated [the medium and soft] will be the best choice for the brand new Mexico City circuit".
For Brazil, in particular, Pirelli claims its choice "should provide a range of strategy options and between two and three pitstops for most competitors, with conditions which could also be as hot as they were in Sao Paulo last season". For the season-ending race at the Yas Marina circuit, the soft and super-soft will be used, repeating the 2014 choice based on the fact it is "a smooth and varied circuit the teams know well from previous testing".
