Bolton boss Neil Lennon has confirmed striker Shola Ameobi is having a trial at the Reebok Stadium. The 33-year-old Nigeria international was released by Crystal Palace in the summer, with Huddersfield, Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday having all taken a look at him.
Lennon confirmed at his Thursday morning press conference:
"We're looking at Shola Ameobi - he's in on trial with us at the minute.
"He's a quality player with a lot of experience, we've asked him to show us what he's capable of and we'll consider our options. We're playing well on the whole but we still need bodies in terms of strikers. We're constantly looking to strengthen the squad and will look to make that happen during the loan window and January."
Ameobi spent 14 years with Newcastle having progressed through the development system, scoring 79 goals in 397 appearances, before leaving in May 2014. He joined Turkish side Gaziantep BB but returned to the Premier League with Palace, linking up again with former Magpies manager Alan Pardew.
