Spaniard Garbine Murguruza battled past Timea Bacsinsky in straight sets to take the women's singles title at the China Open in Beijing. Fifth seed Murguruza, 22, won five games in a row to take the first set, then came back from 2-0 down in the second set to close the 12th-seeded Swiss out 7-5, 6-4.
Bacsinsky, 26, came in to the tournament after suffering four straight opening round losses in a row but upset Carla Suarez Navarro and Ana Ivanovic on the way to the final. The win sees Murguruza rise to fourth in the WTA rankings, just one point off third place.
